The story I will post later this week is called “Ancient Evening.” While it appears I’ve taken this title from Norman Mailer’s historical novel Ancient Evenings, the two stories have little in common besides the backdrop of Ancient Egypt.
“Ancient Evening” involves an early-twentieth-century archeologist’s evening of archeological and self-discovery. Because I can’t help myself, while broaching this more serious theme, I tried to make my story-within-a-story a comedy of sorts. At least, I thought it was funny.
Interestingly, I wrote this story years before discovering that archaeology and ancient history were some of my favorite courses at Wilfrid Laurier University, so while I did research my basic facts at the time, I was less concerned with actual history and more concerned with my whimsical version of revisionist history.
Look for “Ancient Evening” to arrive later this week!
